Child Care Scholarship Program
What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s the age-old question adults ask children from the earliest age. At United Way of Northern New Jersey, we ask ourselves: What keeps our children from realizing their dreams? No matter the answer to the first question – a teacher, a doctor, firefighter, or president – United Way works to ensure that all our children are given a fair chance to meet their full potential.
Studies show that children who receive quality early childhood education do better in school, earn more as adults, and commit fewer crimes. Sadly, the high cost of quality child care often puts these quality learning experiences out of reach for low-income families. Child care is often the most expensive part of a household’s monthly budget for families – even more than the cost of housing, according to the United Way ALICE Report.
Helping Struggling Families Access High-Quality Child Care
To help make crucial quality care more accessible for low-income and ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), United Way offsets the high cost by providing scholarships for more than 1,000 children in our region.
