United Way Family Success Center

Summary of Our Work

Financial pressures create stress for many families whose incomes barely pay for life’s necessities.  These families and individuals are walking the financial tight rope as they struggle to make household payments, provide adequate medical coverage, and keep food on the table.

Nearly 14,000 North Essex households do not earn enough to be financially self-sufficient.

As part of United Way of Northern New Jersey’s commitment to improve INCOME, we launched the United Way Family Success Center in 2009 to help North Essex residents build stronger, healthier, and financially secure lives.  We do this by partnering with local businesses, service providers, and faith-based institutions to provide educational programs, to assist individuals in developing personal goals and action plans that promote financial stability, and to help North Essex residents understand and utilize the resources available to them.

The United Way Family Success Center serves the following communities: Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Montclair, North Caldwell, Roseland, Verona, and West Caldwell.

United Way Family Success Center Mission

The mission of the United Way Family Success Center is to ensure all North Essex families and individuals are supported on their path to self-sufficiency.

United Way Family Success Center’s goals are:

  • To partner with families and individuals to create individualized plans that build on a family’s strengths and move them toward self-sufficiency.
  • To provide education and training that help individuals secure and maintain employment and assist them on the road to financial independence.
  • To connect community members with programs that can help them during challenging times.
  • To build on family and individual strengths so that individuals can be a resource to themselves, their families, other families, and the greater community.
