United Way Gateways to Financial Empowerment
Financial pressures can force any family to make risky decisions. When walking the financialtightrope, a parent may go without a much-needed medication so that there is enough money to keep food on the table and pay the rent.
For ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and low-income families struggling to live in our expensive region, these tough decisions are all too often a part of the daily routine. We are working to make sure families do not have to choose between paying for medications and healthy food. That families aren’t deciding between quality child care and paying the rent.
United Way Gateways to Financial Empowerment helps individuals build savings and improve their financial stability. We put families on a path toward self-sufficiency by providing supports like free financial education, mentoring, and tax preparation. We also partner with local service providers to connect families to additional resources that can help during challenging times.
