Earn A Varsity Letter In Community Service

United Way Varsity Letter recognizes high school students who have made an exceptional commitment to their community through volunteer work over the course of a year. The program encourages students to pursue service opportunities that provide skills and leadership development, expands their interests, and gives back to the community. Upon completion, students receive a Varsity Letter in Community Service and are recognized at an event hosted by United Way.

To earn a Varsity Letter in Community Service during any given school year, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a participating high school

  • Complete a minimum of 120 hours of community service including:

    • 30 hours of United Way aligned service work

    • One school-related activity

    • See FAQs for detailed information regarding eligible volunteer work

  • Submit verifiable hours/activities

  • Earn an overall GPA of at least 2.0

  • Pay a $10 application fee
