United Way Chili Open Golf Classic returns on Feb. 5 after pandemic pause
Winter sports enthusiasts are invited to play golf in whatever weather Mother Nature throws their way while helping support United Way of Northern New Jersey’s work across its five-county region. A spirited, family friendly golf outing, the annual United Way Chili Open Golf Classic will take place at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday, February 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Golfers can play 18 holes — sometimes in the snow and freezing temperatures — and warm up afterward with chili and a variety of fare from local restaurants. Participants also can take part in a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses and community members and listen to live music by Sussex County band R.E.NO.
Held in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Branchville, Newton and Wallkill Valley, event proceeds will help ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and households in poverty in Morris, Somerset, Suburban Essex, Sussex and Warren counties. ALICE essential workers were struggling to afford the basics even before the pandemic arrived.
“For ALICE essential workers, the road to recovery will be a long one,” said United Way of Northern New Jersey CEO Kiran Handa Gaudioso. “This event is a great way to have some fun while coming together as a community to help those hardest hit by the pandemic.”
To date, Franklin Mutual Insurance and Thorlabs are serving as Name a Nine Sponsors. Habanero Sponsors include ADP TotalSource, Homebridge Financial Services, Lakeland Bank, navitend, Newton Medical Center Foundation, and Selective Insurance.
Early bird pricing is $95 per golfer and $360 per foursome. After Jan. 10, tickets are $105 per golfer and $400 per foursome.
